Design Work on the Fukushima Tower Units

The design work on the Fukushima Tower Units (FTUs) is progressing. Have the main framework in place and will be adding details to the schematics later today and tomorrow.

Fukushima Tower Units

A series of gravity/human and/or spring/human powered electric generators throughout the facilities to provide another level of emergency power. In other words to be the back-up to the back-up power systems. These units would provide power to the control panels, communications, and gauges as well as providing power to the essential systems such as shut-off valves and pumps. While they would not be capable of operating the whole facility they would be capable of sustainable, autonomous, and viable electric power to the facility’s critical systems during emergencies. These simple and economical gravity and spring powered electric generators may make the difference between an emergency and a total disaster as in the case of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear meltdown, explosion, and massive radiation release.

Spring and Solar Roadster


By installing two “cylinders” of a spring-powered generator and having the SPGs winding mechanisms foot activated you would have the capabilities of an autonomous, self-sustaining battery charging source working in conjunction with the solar charging system. The two “cylinders” would be installed in the framework on each side of the driver. The gearbox and generator would be behind the driver in the compartment with the motor, control computer, and battery system. Below is an initial concept drawing showing the possible components and framework layout of the SPG-Solar Roadster.


With the SPG-Solar Roadster there would be a whole new dimension to the Solar Car competition. The strategies and tactics would now have a new twist to them with the uses of the spring-powered generator and solar charger either separately or in conjunction with one another. The SPG-Solar Roadster brings the possibilities of day and night road rallies along with inclement weather and cloudy day strategies.

Portable Power Pack for Continuous Operation


In thinking further about the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, I realized that many of the problems occurred at various location within the vast facilities. While having the Fukushima Tower Units (FTUs) located near the control rooms and critical emergency equipment is vital there may be requirements for electrical power at other more remote locations in the facility. This section deals with such exigencies.


What I propose is a combination of two ideas in this general report into a functional and viable mobile power unit. The Portable Power Pack for Continuous Operations (3PCO, a play-on-letters to “C3PO” of Star Wars fame) is the combination of the SPG/Solar Roadster and the Survivor series of the SPG.

Tri-mode Operations – Sun, Wind, and Spring Powered ■Pan Power■


By combining into one transportable case the three modes of remote self-sustainable electric power production you create a portable system that will give you electric power in most all situations. Solar charging for long battery charging. Wind charging for medium charging with a steady wind. And spring power charging for rapid, reliable, continuous, and predictable charging.

The Well


The project I call “The Well”, like many of The GravPower Generator Company’s concepts, begins with the amalgamation of two concepts. The first concept is the Tri-mode or Pan Power system that combines the three self-sustainable systems of wind, solar, and gravity/human and/or spring/human electrical production systems. This system is small and portable by design to allow for transportation and use in remote locations. But what if we were to scale up the design to larger, more stationary applications?


The second concept that comes into play is the idea of the Direct Current Micro-grid (DC-MG) systems being developed for use. The combining of the Pan Power electrical production system with a localized DC-MG system would allow for sustainable and autonomous power to a village, town, facilities (schools, business, etc.) or even an industrial park. This system would be utilized in areas where there is little or no standard utility grid support.

The Elevator


Just as with the “The Well” above the gravity/human and spring/human electrical production devices of The GravPower Generator Company are often utilized in remote, isolated locations and off-grid scenarios. But if we turn out attention to the modern urban areas nothing could be as remote or off-grid as an Intensive Care Unit during a severe power outage with no standard emergency backup electric generators, remembering what happened at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster. The critical life-saving power must be maintained. Failure of the power grid and backup systems now becomes a life and death situation.

And this realization was the impetus of another self-sustainable, autonomous system called “The Elevator”. Using the basic principles of the gravity and spring powered electric generators we can conveniently locate the “weight drop” areas in the confines of a stairwell or elevator shaft. Having the opening access to the system located adjacent to hallways the operators can pull the weights to activate the electric generators located in the shaft or stairwell.


This system would be imperative in hospitals, emergency centers, first responder facilities, airport control towers, water/sewage treatment plants, power production facilities, and other essential services and buildings. By having independent continuous power throughout the structure you can assure a constant and reliable source of electrical energy for critical equipment and systems.


So considering the lives that can be saved and the people helped, I would say that “The Elevator” system fulfills a great need. And that, my friend, is my elevator pitch! (Yes, pun intended.)
